Because this product contains human-derived components, the risk of infection cannot be completely ruled out. However, during the manufacturing process, strict screening for infectious diseases is conducted, and only safe placental material confirmed to be negative for hepatitis B virus, hepatitis C virus, HIV, and variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob virus is used. In addition, autoclave sterilization is performed as a further infection control measure against viruses and bacteria. Since its approval and marketing in 1974, there have been no reports of infection.

Because the theoretical risk of transmitting infectious diseases cannot be completely ruled out, individuals who use human placenta-derived pharmaceuticals, including Laennec, are not permitted to donate blood. As a general rule, organ donation should also be avoided. However, in the case of organ donation, it may be permitted if the transplant recipient has received appropriate explanation from the transplant physician and has clearly expressed the intention to accept the donation.
