The tuberculin skin test is used to confirm that you are not infected with tuberculosis. It may be required for visa applications or as part of documentation for studying abroad.
This test requires two visits to our clinic. At the first visit, the solution is injected under the skin, and at the second visit—48 hours later (up to 72 hours)—the reaction is assessed. Please schedule your first visit only if you are able to return within 48 hours for the follow-up assessment.
In Japan, most people receive the BCG (tuberculosis vaccine) during childhood. Because of this, a positive reaction may sometimes occur even without actual TB infection (false positive). In such cases, a chest X-ray or an interferon-gamma release assay (IGRA, such as T-SPOT, which is available at our clinic) may be required. We recommend confirming in advance with the institution to which you will be submitting the test results how to proceed in the event of a false positive.
This is a blood test that can accurately determine whether you are infected with tuberculosis. It requires approximately five days for results to be determined.
It is considered a secondary, detailed examination and is usually performed when TB infection is suspected based on a tuberculin skin test or chest X-ray.
The test is available from Monday through Saturday (not available on Sundays and public holidays).
Please note that available testing times are limited. For details, please contact each clinic directly.
