These vaccinations are for individuals planning to become pregnant.

If a pregnant woman contracts certain infections, it can endanger her own health and also affect the baby, increasing the risk of miscarriage or premature birth. However, rest assured — many of these infections can be prevented with vaccines. Vaccination is extremely important to help ensure a healthy pregnancy and welcome a healthy baby. When the mother has immunity, it also helps protect the newborn from serious illnesses.

If you wish to receive vaccinations at our clinic, please bring any records you have of previous antibody test results, vaccination history, or your maternal and child health handbook. This will allow us to give more accurate and efficient advice on the types and number of vaccines recommended for you. Please feel free to consult with our staff.

If you are planning to become pregnant, there are certain vaccinations that are especially recommended before conception. This is because a type of vaccine called a “live vaccine” cannot be administered during pregnancy. Live vaccines may allow the virus to multiply within the body, which could potentially affect the baby. Therefore, it is recommended to receive these vaccines before pregnancy and wait an appropriate period (about two months) before trying to conceive.

Rubella, if contracted during early pregnancy, can cause serious birth defects in the baby, such as congenital rubella syndrome, which may include hearing loss, heart disease, and eye abnormalities.

Measles is also a highly contagious infection that can become more severe during pregnancy. It is recommended to complete vaccination at least two months before becoming pregnant.

Even during pregnancy, inactivated vaccines can be safely administered. Because these vaccines do not allow viruses or bacteria to replicate in the body, they pose no risk to the fetus. It is safe to receive them even in early pregnancy (before 12 weeks), so please rest assured.

In particular, influenza, Tdap (for pertussis and other diseases), and RSV (respiratory syncytial virus) vaccines are recommended during pregnancy.

These vaccines help the mother produce protective antibodies that fight off infections. These antibodies are not only beneficial for the mother, but are also passed on to the baby through the placenta, helping protect the infant from infections for the first few months after birth.

Helps prevent infections caused by the influenza virus. If contracted during pregnancy, the risk of severe illness increases and may lead to complications such as preterm birth. Vaccination is recommended for pregnant individuals during flu season.

Helps prevent respiratory infections caused by Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV).

RSV can cause severe illness in infants, including pneumonia and bronchiolitis. When vaccinated during pregnancy, antibodies are transferred from the mother to the baby, helping protect the baby from infection during the early months of life.

Protects against three infectious diseases: tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis. Pertussis (whooping cough) can be especially dangerous for infants, sometimes even life-threatening.

Receiving the Tdap vaccine during late pregnancy allows protective antibodies to pass from the mother to the baby, helping protect the newborn in the early months of life.

Protecting a newborn from infectious diseases requires cooperation not only from the mother, but also from the entire family surrounding the baby.

It is especially important for those who have frequent close contact with the baby—such as the father, siblings, and grandparents—to have immunity.

This is known as the “cocoon strategy”, and it plays a vital role in safeguarding babies who are too young to receive vaccinations themselves.
If family members are immune to infections like influenza or pertussis, the risk of transmission to the baby is greatly reduced.

This is because it limits the number of potential sources from which the baby could become infected.

At our clinic, we also offer consultations for family members regarding vaccination, as part of our commitment to protecting the health of both pregnant mothers and their babies.

For your own health, and for the well-being of your precious child, we encourage you to consider getting vaccinated.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or would like to receive a vaccination.
